Two experimental 7T MRI machines were purchased by the Center for Stroke Research (CSB) and the Cluster of Excellence NeuroCure with the aim of creating an experimental platform for small animal imaging. The facilities will service projects in the areas of a) experimental neuroimaging and b) molecular imaging, but projects in other fields of research are explicitly encouraged.

Imaging technologies present an extremely valuable tool for basic and translational biomedical research in disease models. MRI is non-invasive and has therefore become a central tool for basic research. Among its advantages is its straightforward application to clinical use and associated reduction of the number of research animals required.
